Sunday School, or Family Ministry Hour as we call it at New Life Assembly, is the foundation of our worship services every Sunday morning. This one-hour commitment to God’s Word in an open learning format has been pivotal for the church and the discipleship of its members for hundreds of years.
A boy about 4 or 5 years old went to Sunday School years ago. His parents were divorced and the family rarely went to church. But a determined Sunday School teacher of a nearby church began to pick that boy and his sisters up and take them to church. She faithfully picked the kids up and took them home week after week. The little boy did not say too much in class but listened to the lessons. The truth of the Gospel was planted in his heart. Soon he and his family moved away. About ten years later, that same boy was a teenager in high school when he was invited to attend church. He went on a Wednesday night and received the Lord as his Savior. Soon afterwards, he found the brown Bible he received from his Sunday School teacher as a little boy. He began to read it over and over, and soon he felt the Lord leading him into ministry. That little boy, who first heard about the love of Jesus Christ because of dedicated Sunday School teacher, is a pastor today. That little boy was me. Words cannot express to you the gratitude I have for the ministry of Sunday School. The commitment of each teacher and worker I’ve ever had has made an eternal difference in my life.
